Question 1: Do you have any teachers who have used lecturing to teach this year? Answer: no not really Question 2: How do you feel about lectures? Do they benefit you more than an interactive lesson? Answer: I personally do not like lectures, I am listening in the beginning but as the teacher keeps talking and talking I get extremely bored and stop focusing on what they are saying. A hands on lesson will get me engaged and stay focused on the task. Question 3: Which do you prefer, an active lesson with discussions or getting the information verbatim and taking notes? Answer: I prefect active lessons way more. Question 4: Do you think we should get rid of lectures or find ways to make them more engaging? Why? Answer: I think we should get rid of them completely because even if you make them more engaging it is still hard for a students brain to memorize all the information. Name: Josiah Dentu Question 1: Do you have any teachers this year that lecture? Answer: Yes I have a few this year but I had more last year Question 2: How do you feel about lectures? Are they more beneficial to you than an interactive lesson? Answer: I don't think they are more beneficial, I get bored and lose attention especially when they lecture for the whole class time Question 3: Which do you prefer, an active lesson with discussions or getting the information verbatim and taking notes? Answer: Active lesson, I can't listen to someone talk about information for an hour and 30 minutes Question 4: Do you think we should get rid of lectures or find ways to make them more engaging? Why? Answer: I think they need to be eliminated completely because most students can't focus and write down notes as fast as the teacher talks making sure they get everything they need to write down

What are your top 2 issues you'd like to write about?
Issue 1: styles of learning Issue 2: hours in school Out of these two, which are you leaning towards more to write about? I'm leaning more towards the different styles of learning What is the problem? Teachers lecture students as a way of teaching to get information to them. Lectures get boring and sometimes it is hard to follow along and when writing notes you have to write verbatim which can get messy. Why is this problem a problem? (Explain) There are different types of learners, visual, auditory, and kinesthetic who learn best through different methods. Lecturing would be best for the auditory learners and not the visual and kinesthetic. How much do you know about this problem? Include some of these topics or knowledge here. Visual learners grasp the information better by having something to look at or watching something to learn what they have to. Kinesthetic learners grasp the information better when they have hands on lessons and can use some or all of their senses. What do you want to learn about this problem that you don't yet know? Why do teachers use lecturing in the first place? Who does this affect? Does this problem affect you? Does it affect anyone you know? This affects the whole class because if the teacher lectures, and lets say the class is full of visual learners and not auditory then the whole class is not getting the information as they should making it harder to study if they don't understand it. I can not sit and listen to my teachers talk for an hour and a half, I start to get tired and I lose my focus trying to stay awake. What are possible solutions? (think 3-4) Some possible solutions could be making sure the teachers curriculum has at least 2 of the 3 styles of teaching, or ways to approach it in each lesson. For example one day lecture out the main points and the next day show a video of what they had explained the day before. Another one is that the teachers could take a test in the beginning of the year that will determine which type of learning he/she needs to use throughout the year. This would help with if there are more visual or more auditory they could then focus on one or more of the techniques. What solution would actually work? Why is this one something that could work? I think the solution that would actually work is making lessons with more than one style because it is not only benefiting the kids in the specific ways but they are hearing the information more than once. Repetition is key and the more they hear it and the different ways they hear and or see it can help them fully process what needs to be processes. Who are the two people you are thinking about interviewing? What's your reasoning behind these interview choices? I am going to be interviewing my friend Taylor Sharpe because she wants to become a teacher and I want to see her views on how things should be taught. The next person I am going to interview is my neighbor Jackie because she was a first grade teacher before she retired and im sure she has a lot of things she can tell me about it. Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic learners. One problem in the American school system is that there is a good amount of teachers who use lecturing as their main teaching style, rather than using projects or group work to teach the students. There are 65 percent visual learners, 30 percent auditory learners and 5 percent kinesthetic learners in a typical K-12 classroom. Being a visual learner I can agree that sitting and listening to a teacher talk and try to feed me information does not work as well as having a visual to look at. In a normal hour and a half class it would be difficult to retain all the information the teacher is giving you if you have nothing to look at to remember it. This can affect the students, like me, who need to see and hear the information to be able to grasp the whole concept. As a solution I would recommend teachers do a little bit of every style of learning for every single student to get the information in their own way. https://www.inc.com/molly-reynolds/how-to-spot-visual-auditory-and-kinesthetic-learni.html Long days Another problem we have in the school system is the amount of hours we go for and how much homework we have additionally to the class. We are in school for 7 hours a day 5 days a week, that doesn't include sports and if you need to go in before or stay after for help or any extra curricular activities. The amount of homework I get per week is almost equivalent to a whole school day which is absurd. This affects an everyday routine and most of the time kids have a lot of homework they stay up late trying to complete it before the due date and are extremely tired the next day which makes it harder to focus in class because of how tired they are. Some schools start at 7:30 am and get out at 2:30 pm which gives them enough time to get sports out of the way and finish their homework at a reasonable time to go to bed before midnight. I think going to school at 9:15 am and getting out at 4:03 pm is a terrible schedule because by the time we get out and finish a 2 hour practice the day is almost over and around that time you are ready to go to bed but you have homework due the next day. This can be hard for kids who have bad time management and are not organized enough to finish assignments when they are due. I think as a solution our schedule should change from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm just so there are not students falling asleep in classes causing all sorts of mental illnesses. This would benefit not only the students but the teachers who also have lives outside of school. https://classroom.synonym.com/side-effects-school-being-long-7899830.html Parking
The third problem with Freedom specifically is that to park in the parking lot you need a pass. You would expect a pass for the year to be around $100, which is reasonable. Passes are $100 per semester and you get fined $5 if you park in the parking lot without a ticket. The main problem with this is that there is not a lot of space to park on the street on the outside of the school which leaves students to park in the neighborhoods and walk about a half mile from the car to the school. Out of all the parking spots we have at our school the lot is only half filled with cars leaving the open spots available. Why should we have to pay for a parking pass at a school we go to? Why is it so expensive? If they lowered the cost it would resolve so many issues with kids being late from parking so far, it would open up the street on the outside of the school and there would be less late students. The administrative office is very strict with being late but have the parking passes too expensive and not everyone can afford to pay $200 to park where they go to for free. I hate to park down the street especially when it is really cold outside and my fingers turn purple from the walk to school. A huge problem in the world is people being very judgmental. Strangers are quick to comment on someones outfit or their hair or how they look. You never know what people are going through and I think it is really messed up that people worry about other people rather than themselves. A solution to this is to mind your own business, if it isn't effecting you personally don't worry about it or even comment on it.
This week I read around 20 pages because I forgot to bring my book to class so I read at home and fell asleep during it. This chapter, Adam has a stalker and is told by his manager to stop hooking up with girls because they could turn on him and get him in trouble. They could make him lose his music contract. I think the only reason he's messing around with girls on tour nights is because Mia used to be on tour with him and he is lonely now that she is gone. Now that Mia and Adam are back in New York together and reminiscing on the boat I feel like eventually they will get back together or even just keep the vibe they have going. I am really excited to finish this book because I am anxious to know how the story ends. I also want to start the next book and maybe even read all the rest of the books by Gayle Forman.

When I was 2 years old and my mom was in the hospital with my younger brother my dad took me to fair lakes to feed the ducks. I didn't know to rip the bread into pieces so when I pulled my arm back to throw the whole slice of bread my dad tried to tell me to wait. The biggest duck came up behind me and snatched it from me and it scared me to death.
2. In elementary school my 5th grade teacher was a huge sports fan. When we had outside time we would always get a bunch of other classes to play kickball with us on the blacktop. I was shy back then and once I started playing I started coming out of my shell and would play all the time. 3. When my baby sister Laila was born I was more than happy. I had been the only girl for years and I couldn't wait to have a sister for once. 4. My neighbor, who was also my best friend told me one day that she was moving to Florida. We lived next to each other our whole life and spent more days with each other than without. The night before she was supposed to leave we sat outside crying and talking about all the fun things we have done together and it broke my heart. 5. One summer my cousins and I went to the beach and when we walked on the shore at night there were so many crabs grabbing our feet. We walked about a mile and then ran back screaming and jumping to avoid the pinching. 6. My first day of high school I remember like it was yesterday. I do not think I have every been more anxious and scared to be somewhere I had to be in my life. I was so nervous about going to the wrong class and the upperclassmen. 7. The first 5 Seconds Of Summer concert I went to was probably the most chaotic concert I went to because of how emotional I was. I loved this band more than anything and I ended up losing my voice because I sang every song so loud and I knew every word to them. 8. Making the varsity field hockey team was so exciting the first year it was made because I had never been apart of a team besides a volleyball club league in elementary school. It was an experience and I will never forget it because I have made such an incredible bond with my teammates and fell in love with the sport. 9. When I was in middle school, my friends dad put up a rope swing in the woods behind our house across the little stream we have. Over the summer I walked my neighbors dog down by the woods and I saw the rope swing still there and the memories from everyone falling into the stream rushed back and it made me so happy. 10. Out of all 35 of my cousins, my favorite cousin just got married. We got the wedding invitation over the weekend and my heart exploded I was so happy for him. I cant wait to dance and celebrate his special day with him. The last few weeks in Mr. Y's class have been really productive. We walk in and he talks to us about what were going to be doing and then lets us work and ask questions. I think the technique that has helped me the most is Fast and Furious because I don't stop typing I just keep going until I get everything out. Mr. Y has talked to us a lot and really made me comfortable with him in a short amount of time so I think that since I am really comfortable with him I can ask him to help me with my essay for anything. I enjoyed the peer editing because I got feedback from another student and it was good to hear. I really like how we listen to music and turn the lights down to get it really calm in the room, it makes me focus better than if the lights were on and it was completely silent. The philosophy of "length of final, poorly written" really helps. I can write everything I want to say but have help on re-wording it, or fixing some sentences that either don't make sense or just need changed. There has not been a way that I haven't found helpful because everything we do makes sense to me.
