I have read 2 chapters since I started this book, I watched the movie and there are a lot similarities in the beginning. In the beginning of the movie it explains more of the reason why Katie is in Wilmington, and in the book she is already there. The setting is late April, in Wilmington North Carolina at Ivan's down by a dock where they fishermen come for what they need. The weather is nice and it gives the story a calm vibe. I plan to read a lot over spring break and hopefully finish half of the book and continue to make more comparisons and differences with the movie.

This week I read the first 22 pages of Safe Haven and it starts off differently than in the movie. The book gets right into when Katie is in South Port and in the movie it shows the back story of why she moved to South Port. Nicholas Sparks wrote a top selling novel The Notebook over the span of 6 months and published in 1998 and then was followed by other well known novels. He has published over 105 million books worldwide in more than 50 languages. He has served as a producer for books that had a film created. He lives in North Carolina and contributes to national and local charities, he also is a large contributor to the Creative Writing Program at the University of Notre Dame. He was a full scholarship athlete for track and field and still holds a record today. He coached track and field for 4 years and the local high school and had a team he coached set a world junior indoor record which also still stands today.
I started a new book called Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks. There are 432 pages I think it will take be before May to finish because I have seen the movie a couple of times and I have visited South port in North Carolina and seen the set they filmed on so I think it would be complete if I read the book. I am also really excited to read it to compare how the book and the movie are. I recently read The Last Song also by Nicholas Sparks and I loved it and his style of writing.
I just finished my book, I read 25 pages this week. The title of the book is called "Where She Went". It is significant because when Mia was in a coma Adam told her she could live her life without him if she wokeup. Adam goes 3 years without her because she disappears. He eventually finds her and asks her where she has been. She has been performing at recitals and going on tour the last 3 years. While she has falling more in love with music he has fallin out of love with it. I hope to read another book by this author. I love this series so I am hoping the reat of her books will interest me.
This week I read like 3 chapters and I only have a couple chapters left in the book. Adam and Mia are talking about their relationship, and it ends up being an very emotional conversation leaving Adam in tears. He then tells her he needs to get some sleep because he has a flight the next day and she offers him to sleep at her place. He lays down on the couch and starts to fall asleep when he hears her get up on the other side of the couch and fall asleep. The next morning he reminisces about when he used to sleep over at her house and she would wake up to the smell of coffee as he brews a pot and waits to see if she still does. He realizes she still has the same mug he used to drink out of 3 and a half years ago and he feels like he is still apart of her life. I am so excited to finish this book to finally be done with it and start the next one.
This week I read a chapter, it was about 12 pages and it was about Adam and Mia in New York and they are reminiscing about before Mia's accident. When Mia was in a coma at the hospital Adam went into the room and he told her if she stayed it would make him happy even if she ended up breaking things off with him. She told him that she heard him say that and he made a promise to her that he wouldn't go looking for her and she was upset when he didn't. He didn't want to break the promise. I am almost done with the book and I am excited to find out what happens to them in the end.
This week I read around 70 pages and I got a pretty good understanding of the book. There were a few flashbacks of when Adam and Mia were together and how he had finally gotten her to go camping with him even though she said she would never go. In present day Adam and Mia are on the Staten Island ferry visiting Mia's favorite spots and Adam is still in love with her even though she just sees him as 'Adam'. They visited the Statue of Liberty and he asked her what her secret was and the statue "responded" with that she was not wearing anything under the rob so she could catch the breeze on the water. I think towards he end of the book Adam and Mia will get back together now that Adam isnt with the bad in London. They will probably hangout a lot more and rediscover their feelings for eachother again.
In my interview with Cindy, she said that she wanted to learn how to do her own laundry. This is because she wants to be more independent and once she goes to college she will not have anyone to do it for her. The best way she can learn how to do her own laundry is to have someone show her. She is a kinesthetic learner, meaning to fully absorb the information she has to have a step by step hands on lesson. Other things she would need if I were to write her a guide is the things needed in each step, such as soap and which color pile of clothes. She would like to accomplish this before she goes to college so she has the knowledge when she gets there, and get practice at home too. Learning this new life skill she is excited to be more independent and do things without help.
This week I read 2 chapters and I am more than half way done with the book. I really like this book but I think I like the first one better. Mia and Adam are friends and she takes him around New York City. Adam thinks to his self why she hasnt left already and if it would be weird if he just hopped in a cab and dissapear like she did. He catches up with his band and shows them that he has all these new songs that he wrote but they shoot him down and tell him its a little too late because they havent been on tour in a year. Everyone loved the new song and said they woukd go to the studio to record and maybe they could produce an album.
I really enjoyed In the Heights and I am glad Mr. Y introduced us to it because it really taught me things I didn't know before. I liked the songs, they were all so catchy and I caught my self singing them on my own time so I know it really made an impact on me. A few of my favorite songs were When the sun goes down, Piragua, Carnaval Del Barrio, and Champagne. My all time favorite part of the musical was the song Carnaval del Barrio and the scene because I thought it was really good because of all the characters that contributed and sang along. The song is very very catchy and I listened to it in the shower and sang almost every word. My least favorite part would be when Abuela Claudia died because they all loved her so much and I could tell how upset everyone was. She had just won the lottery and she wasn't even there to celebrate with them. It hit close to home because I have had a similar situation happen and I know how they felt when they heard the news. One thing I learned about cultures other than mine is that they had their blood family, but they also had their friends who they treated no different than family. This is important because they all supported and had each others backs through anything they went to. A lesson I learned while reading and watching In the Heights is to appreciate everything because you never know when something is going to be gone. Pretty much never take things for granted, while they weren't living in the ideal situation they still made the best out of everything they had and then Abuela ended up winning the lottery of $96,000.
If I were to make the cast of In The Heights this would be my cast list, Sonny- Moises Arias Graffiti Pete- Pitbull Nina- Jennifer Lopez Usnavi- Bruno Mars Piraguero- George Lopez |
